βͺοΈ MEMORY LANE βͺοΈ
When I was a kid, I was allowed to eat a half glace cake (een halve roze koekπ³π±) on Saturdays or stovetop popcorn, ice cream with peanut butter* or some Cheetos – which we called ‘chiwies’π¨πΌ in Papiamento – peanut butter or cheese flavored. We used to buy this at a supermarket close to home called Dekamarkt. The rest of the week, cashews or pistachio nuts were the most common snacks. I looked forward to these moments and enjoyed these snacks more when I finally was allowed to eat them.
We would all sit together, enjoying this food as a whole family in front of the TV. Watching a fun comedy show that was on TV at the time, like ‘Bananasplitπ³π±,’ Mr. Bean, or other funny programs.
*Trying peanut butter with vanilla ice cream again after 30 years could be a delightful trip down memory lane. Taste preferences can change, so it’s worth giving it a try to see if you still enjoy that unique combination.
