βͺοΈ MEMORY LANE βͺοΈ
I have a soft spot for Belgium thanks to some wonderful childhood memories.
Like Samson and Gert, for instance. I even had a stuffed animal that looked just like Samson. I received it as a birthday gift in 1999, and I remember the excitement I felt when my dad took me to the toy store with his favorite phrase, ‘Choose whatever you want,’ and Samson was one of the things I picked out.
I used to watch Samson and, well, quite a bit of Ketnet with a plate of homemade Antillean Creole food in front of me. I can almost picture the room where I’d sit in front of the TV with a plate of “bonchi” and rice (that’s red beans with rice). A plate with a smooth substance that contained red beans and, for some, their white insides.
And, I delved into the adventures of Suske and Wiske in their comics.
Plus, my dad used to work abroad, including in Belgium. He took usπ¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ there once for a shopping trip, and I still recall the fun drive-through afterward. Although, I can’t quite remember the name of that fast-food restaurant.
Oh, and how could I forget Belgian fries? My mom loved making them, and they’re absolutely delicious.
