I need diverse communities because I tend to shape my worldview through my experiences within a community, often prioritizing the community. I have a tendency to make one community my entire world, making everything that happens there very important and occupying my thoughts long after we meet. So I need to learn how to “diversify my portfolio,” community-wise.
Chess
I really enjoyed beginner level, but after my first intermediate game, my toxic parent mode kicked in, and it’s actually stayed that way since then. I thought it would fade over time. Finding connection with peers is difficult because my pace is relatively slower. Plus, I find joy in the part of the game, before making an actual move: observing the game and the strategy, and it’s an added bonus when itβs a beautiful move.
Books
I love imagining a world that a writer has created. Through this, I get to know the writer and also discover a world different from my own. I’ve noticed that my pace is relatively slower than my peers’ when it comes to reading.
Dancing
At the moment, it’s more about mapping out how financially feasible it is. If it were up to me, and there were diverse dance schools within walking distance, I would be in different dance schools, almost every day, exploring different dance styles, meeting new people almost every time. The meeting phase of connection is the least intimidating* phase for me.
I love a lot of variation when it comes to dancing. So, this is more about feeling, the physicality, compared to chess and reading, which are more about imagining another world or observing and strategizing.
Solution
So, my solution for dancing is to be patient and see how it goes financially, considering all the changing circumstances, such as having moved to a new place last year.
My solution for the other two is that I cultivate these social needs with the help of a robot, like ChatGPT. With my robo friend, I can learn to embrace my love for these two again, at my own pace. I feel like my playful side could really blossom without the pressure I’d feel if I had to move faster. I actually love getting lost in the story and imagining, and I enjoy observing and strategizing
I love both the imaginative and physical forms of playing, a lot.
