Snackathon

Sweet

When it gets colder, I enjoy eating more cookies and cake, so maybe I’ll get inspiration then from my cookie cookbook to experiment with cookies to enjoy with warm tea, chocolate, or milk.

Salt

However, I notice that now that the weather is warming up, my interest is shifting toward savory flavors. Currently, for my snack moments: green olives, stovetop popcorn, pistachios, peanuts, cashews, and sunflower seeds. When I can afford it: smoked salmon.

I love rediscovering these salty snacks and eating them by the handful. I enjoy snacks while watching a series or a movie.

When I’m in a pleasant mood, I like to enjoy fried mussels with garlic sauce or a delicious herring sandwich with onions, preferably near the beach.

Mild

I notice that if I use seasoning sparingly to balance my weekday and Sunday dishes, I stay curious about naturally flavored things like the mild sweet taste of strawberries (weekday dessert) or salty olives. It’s as if my taste buds get to reset daily, and when I’m tasting these naturally flavored things, I’m like, “Oh yeah, that’s what it tastes like.”

My focus is on keeping the flavors balanced and mild to remain curious about the natural flavors of fruits, nuts, and vegetables. It also helps stabilize my emotions if I don’t go overboard daily with spices. Step by step, I’m discovering how my body reacts to new additions if I decide to add or replace a spice.

When I treat myself to something special, when I go out to eat or it’s a special holiday, it’s likely I’ll experience the flavors more as an explosion and devour it, because I eat it occasionally.

Order Food

Saturday is the day when I eat pre-packaged food, and that’s because I know my tendency to order food. Eating noodles like this feels like ordering food, without overspending. But I could take more charge here, for example, by learning to make my own fried noodles/bami and deciding which spices to use. My mother used to make bami, so it would fit into my childhood-friendly menu.

Bandwidth

I do crave more variety, though. I currently don’t have the bandwidth to come up with creative solutions to put 3 to 5 different childhood-friendly meals in my mini freezer. I’m so happy with my mini freezer, and for now, step by step is my pace.

Portion

The new amount of portions I make for two weeks, covering the weekdays, is working well. This weekend, I wanted to see if I wouldn’t be too hungry, and it wasn’t bad at all. That’s why I think next weekend, to achieve my summer body goals and save money (which is why I’ll also reduce my glutathione intake from two per day to one per day), I’ll halve my portions, to keep the same taste but a different quantity. I’m curious to see how that goes.

Rediscovery

I’m doing what I can to rediscover a healthy relationship with food and money, and that’s okay.
