👩🏾‍🦱 AFRO 👩🏾‍🦱

I think I know🥲 which hairstyle best suits the lifestyle I want to lead: locs!

I’ve had them before (starting two years after my previous big chop), but I missed seeing my own hair loose. This morning, I thought up a solution: I could leave a fringe and a few loose strands here and there. That’s why, now, five years after my last big chop, I’m considering locs with loose hair. I can color the loose hair just like the locs. I can even straighten the loose hair and give it a keratin treatment. I can braid the locs in the evening, for example, into four large braids. Shower/bathe in the morning. Dry the hair. Undo the four braids and it adds more dynamics. Ideally, I want these locs platinum or ash blonde to accentuate the rest of my appearance. These light colors, for example, accentuate my deep skin tone and bring out the coolness in my eyes. I feel like I’m hitting 80,000 birds🐣 with one stone🪨. Having an idea is one thing, but putting it into practice is another, I know😮‍💨. Especially lightening my hair, I can probably do that best before locking. I noticed that my hair locks underneath my box braids. I felt frustrated detangling it all the time, but maybe letting it lock this way is the best(also if I would want to unloc all of them, I could do it more easily). And I won’t be twisting the locs too much (advice from my dad, which I remember today on Father’s Day :)), because they are under the braids. It’s then semi-freeforming under the braids, which I think retains more volume. My hair’s tendency to be very voluminous comes in handy here! So, I can alternate with braids if I want a different look. Also, something that I learned from my mother is to adapt* to the standard, which is another reason for this style: long and light. Her version was permanently straightening, but my generation, I, would probably choose blonde locs with bangs. People often call these box braids locs already; it’s a hairstyle that doesn’t seem to evoke political reactions (which seems to fit my agreeable temperament), and showering or bathing every day is also pleasant for those around who get to smell the sweet scent the locs hold. So that’s why it’s probably ideal for me. Now on to executing this idea 🥲

* In therapy I learned to adjust/adapt, without hurting myself.

2019: Thin blond locs, not platinum blonde here, but I do like this color as well. Short after this, I did my last big chop. Maybe because I started them impulsive, without a plan.
2018: experimenting with boxbraids and my own bleached hair
Was looking for this video(2014, 10 years ago, thicker locs) I made and went down memory lane, for a little.
